Jake's Place & Helena's House almost ready for move in!
Helena’s House & Jake’s Place:
We are close to completion on both our five-bedroom, wheelchair accessible homes located on Allen Avenue north of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center called Helena's House and Jake's Place. The Foundation had sought existing homes but because wheelchair accessible homes are in short supply in our area, we launched a Capital Campaign to fund them. Suzy and Rich Gabrielson and Suzy’s parents Chuck and Barbara Lien made a sizeable gift to the campaign. Suzy and Rich’s son Jake, for whom one of the homes is named, has received services from Black Hills Workshop since 2005. Combined with a Neighborhood Stabilization Grant for the project is also a Planned Gift made by the Helena Moore Trust (now deceased). Helena's daughter (also deceased) received services from the Workshop so Helena wanted the agency to continue with the excellent services her daughter had received for years to come by including a gift in her Esate Plan. Funds to provide furnishings the two homes came from the proceeds from our annual 2010 Golf Classic and Alice In Gala-Land 2010, whereHelena was honored as our sponsor and for her lasting legacy gift. As you can see by the recent photo Helena's House and Jake's Place should be complete in December. We will be hosting an open house so the entire community can see what their donations can achieve.
